Finally with the lifting of restrictions and relaxed regulations because of the pandemic, the ability to travel freely has come as much-needed relief to all those that were cooped up and looking forward to a return to travel. There is a slew of special offers and discounts on offer from airlines for senior citizens that are keen to get out of their homes and travel domestically and even internationally.
All that they need is to register for and get their senior citizen’s card to avail of the many benefits available to seniors from airlines like:
Air India: All senior citizens planning to travel on Air India in 2022 will get a 50% discount on flight tickets. These cover most air routes and are for those that are 60 and above with tickets needing to be purchased 3 days before the trip. Some of the other requirements include:
- The individual must be 60 or above at the time of travel.
- Having a valid photo ID as proof like Senior Citizen’s Card/ Aadhar/ PAN card/ Driver’s License etc.
- The discounted price is only valid for travel in the economy class of Air India
- Tickets once issued are valid for 12 months from the date of travel and must be booked 3 days before the trip.
- Cancellations/refunds. Change of travel dates and flights are permitted but incur certain charges.
- The traveler must carry their ID proof at the time of check-in or onboarding or they can be denied travel and the flight charges become non-refundable.
Indigo Airlines: Another airline that is offering a discount for seniors is Indigo Airlines where individuals 60 and above get a 10% rebate on base fares for all domestic routes.
- Valid for those 60 and above that carry valid id proof with their birth date on it. Failure to do so will result in being charged the full fare.
- Tickets are non-transferable to any other senior citizen as no name change is allowed.
- Tickets booked under the 6E senior citizen scheme can be cancelled or changed. However, it cannot be combined with any other offers available from the airlines.
- Additional charges may apply for bookings as per this scheme.
- The airline will charge Rs 3000/- or less (subject to the fare and lower amount) for changes within 3 days of the trip. For 4 days or more, the changing fee is Rs 2500/- or less (subject to the fare and lower amount).
- The cancellation charges for 03 days are Rs 3500/- or less (subject to the fare and lower amount). For cancellations for 4 days and above the charges are Rs 3000/- or less (subject to the fare and lower amount).
Jet Airways: The airline is offering an 8% discount on fares for senior citizens with the ticket being purchased a minimum of 15 days before the trip.
- Bookings can be made through a mobile app or website and the traveler must be 60 or above.
- Birth date id-proof must be carried or the traveler will not be on-boarded.
GoAir: Seniors travelling on Go Air on domestic or international flights can get an 8% discount on their base fare.
- Availability is subject to a first come first serve basis.
- Tickets cannot be transferred and the flyer must be 60 or above on the date of travel.
- Kiosk and web check-in are not available.
- Must have a valid id of age proof or will be charged the full fare.
